19-2-11:This week the club tragically lost one of its longest serving members, Barney O’Connor. Barney, who was originally from Trim, collapsed shortly after competing in the Armagh 5km Road Race in which South O’Hanlon had 8 athletes running. After receiving immediate attention from the emergency services he was brought to the local hospital where he remained on life support until his passing on Tuesday morning. He very rarely missed a local race and was a great supporter of all other Meath clubs races where he wore the clubs colours with great pride. Distance was never an issue with Barney either, he completed the Dublin City Marathon in 2006 and the Edinburgh Marathon only last year.  Never one to stand back when the jobs had to be done,  Barney was a committed clubman and will be very sadly missed by all club members. As a club we wish to offer our sincerest sympathy’s to the O’Connor family. May he rest in peace.
